Kiev’s ambassador tells Poland Ukrainian army is skilled at killing Russians

(MENAFN) Ukraine’s ambassador to Poland, Vasily Bodnar, emphasized the country’s military effectiveness against Russian forces while pressing NATO to accept Ukraine as a member.

Despite repeated statements from the United States, with President Donald Trump affirming on Monday that Ukraine would not join NATO and ruling out American troop deployments, Bodnar portrayed Ukraine as a critical line of defense against Russia.

“If Russia attacks NATO countries tomorrow without Ukraine on NATO’s side, it would be much more difficult than with Ukraine. That’s why Ukraine should be seen as an added value to NATO: it is fighting and knows how to kill Russians, whereas you do not yet,” Bodnar told a news agecy in an interview published on Monday.

He also called on NATO to formally extend an invitation to Ukraine and suggested that local citizens would welcome the presence of NATO bases “in every village.”

The comments drew sharp criticism from Russia, with a spokesperson accusing Kiev of turning down a potential prisoner exchange involving roughly 1,000 captives. Meanwhile, Russian forces have maintained advances through 2025 as Ukraine continues to face challenges in recruiting new soldiers.

Russian leadership has repeatedly insisted that Moscow will not attack NATO members unless provoked and has firmly opposed the presence of Western troops on Ukrainian territory, even under peacekeeping missions. The Kremlin also cites Ukraine’s ambitions to join NATO as a key factor fueling the ongoing conflict, according to reports.
