Polish Official Accuses Trump of Insulting Catholics Over Pope Remarks
According to reports in Polish media, Slawomir Cenckiewicz, who heads Poland’s National Security Bureau and is considered one of Nawrocki’s closest aides, said Trump’s remarks crossed acceptable boundaries.
“President Trump’s post and the graphic attached to it regarding His Holiness Pope Leo XIV exceeds all norms and is an insult to the Vicar of Christ, and thus to all Catholics,” Cenckiewicz wrote on X.
The comments reflect unexpected friction between Trump and some conservative figures in Poland, despite previously close political alignment.
Nawrocki, who rose to the presidency with support from the national-conservative Law and Justice party (PiS), has maintained a generally strong relationship with Trump. The US president previously endorsed him during Poland’s election campaign, and the two leaders have shared positions on issues such as immigration policy, national sovereignty, and opposition to EU climate initiatives.
